چکیده

Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) is an emerging networking technology that is widely used in the environment where end-to-end paths do not exist. DTN follows store-carry-forward mechanism to route data. This mechanism exploits the mobility of nodes and hence the performances of DTN routing and application protocols are highly dependent on the underlying mobility of nodes and its characteristics. Therefore, suitable mobility models are required to be incorporated in the simulation tools to evaluate DTN protocols across many scenarios. In DTN mobility modelling literature, a number of mobility models have been developed based on synthetic theory and real world mobility traces. Furthermore, many researchers have developed specific application oriented mobility models. All these models do not provide accurate evaluation in the all scenarios. Therefore, model selection is an important issue in DTN protocol simulation. In this study, we have summarized various widely used mobility models and made a comparison of their performances. Finally, we have concluded with future research directions in mobility modelling for

Abstract Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a particular type of mobile ad hoc network in which vehicles communicate between themselves using wireless antenna.  Due to unique characteristics of VANETs (e.g. high mobility of nodes and dynamic topology), routing is one of the challenging tasks in such networks. Consequently, delay tolerant networks which consider the disconnect nature of...

Urban Delay Tolerant Network Simulator (UDTNSim v0.1)

Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) is an approach to networking which handles network disruptions and high delays that may occur in many kinds of communication networks. The major reasons for high delay include partial connectivity of networks as can be seen in many types of ad-hoc wireless networks with frequent network partitions, long propagation time as experienced in inter-planetary and deep ...

Modeling Human Mobility and its Applications in Routing in Delay-Tolerant Networks: a Short Survey

Human mobility patterns are complex and distinct from one person to another. Nevertheless, motivated by tremendous potential benefits of modeling such patterns in enabling new mobile services and technologies, researchers have attempted to capture salient characteristics of human mobility. In this short survey paper, we review some of the major techniques for modeling humans’ co-location, as we...

Routing protocols in Vehicular Delay Tolerant Networks: A comprehensive survey

This article presents a comprehensive survey of routing protocols proposed for routing in Vehicular Delay Tolerant Networks (VDTN) in vehicular environment. DTNs are utilized in various operational environments, including those subject to disruption and disconnection and those with high-delay, such as Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET). We focus on a special type of VANET, where the vehicular tr...

Routing Approaches in Delay Tolerant Networks: A Survey

Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) have evolved from Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET). It is a network, where contemporaneous connectivity among all nodes doesn’t exist. This leads to the problem of how to route a packet from one node to another, in such a network. This problem becomes more complex, when the node mobility also is considered. The researchers have attempted to address this issue for ov...
